FAQ
How much does LVD testing cost?
The LVD testing cost generally ranges from around $1000 to several times that, all depending on the type of product, functionality, and components. Also, note that the testing cost depends on whether your product comes with an AC adapter or not. Keep in mind that most testing companies offer free lab test quotations, which also tends to include a list of applicable EN standards.
Should we test a prototype or a sample collected from the production run?
The most common practice is to test the prototype before you enter mass production. However, this assumes that the prototype is made using the same components and casing materials as the final product.
Can LVD testing be done outside the EU?
Yes, most LVD testing companies, including UL and SGS, have testing facilities in Mainland China and other countries in Asia.
This makes sense, as electronics manufacturing is largely concentrated on Shenzhen, Dongguan and a few other manufacturing clusters in Mainland China. Essentially all major testing companies have both offices and testing facilities in the region.
How long does it take before we receive the test report?
The test report is normally delivered within 1 to 2 weeks, from the day the testing company receives the product sample. Keep in mind that you may also need to issue a Declaration of Conformity (DoC), user manual, and technical file.
